This tent just arrived today. Everything came packaged nicely and set-up is actually really easy but the problem is in the instructions which don't tell you what the second fly is for (it's gray with red trim) or if it's actually a room divider? Also, the tent itself has extra loops on it in the front and in the back (extra tie-downs for stability?), but the instructions say nothing about the use of all the extra loops on the tent and there aren't any other poles or specific tie-downs for example in the box. Looking at the pictures on Amazon, you can see that some kind of cording is being used to further stabilize the tent fly and possibly the tent itself; but we sure wish we had instructions that provided more clarity. This tent has a mesh top that starts from the middle of the tent and goes to the top; so for privacy, you have to use the fly; but the door does contain a window for room-air as needed. For us, we prefer the privacy and using the fly is not an issue. We could have gone with the Arizona model, but we opted against anything other than a dome-styled tent due to potential high winds and rain. We also like the fact that heat is better contained in a dome-styled tent over one that is more rectangular in design.Another feature we really like about this tent is that the fly overextends beyond the door of the tent giving you plenty of room to open your tent door without getting drenched in the rain.We are set to go camping this week and we will update this review after we complete our trip. We bought this tent for two adults and our dog. We like the space it provides for two people as we set up our tent much like a living room with a place to play games and watch DVD's. There's plenty of room for two full-sized air mattresses (with cots), a small card table, two end tables and our clothing as well as a large cooler. The tent is a true 10 x 12 and it's a true 6 and a half feet in the center as advertised. My husband is six feet tall and has plenty of headroom with the exception of being right up against the sides of the tent walls. We'd also like to note that this tent did not come with that fowl smell you get when you un-package other brands which is a plus for people who may be susceptible to headaches from vinyl. So far, we're feeling pretty good about this purchase and we're hopeful this tent will give us a few years of enjoyment.Update: Setting up the tent was fairly simple but we failed to line the seams of the fly up exactly with the tent poles staked into the four corners of the ground. Our error had no bearing on the stability of the tent, but we essentially shorted ourselves about three inches of protection (overhang) from inclement weather going in and out of the tent door.We moved camping spots the following day and when we erected the tent the second time we made sure to line the seams of the fly up with the four corners of the tent. This made a difference in how much room we had while standing under the hood of the tent fly that sets directly above the door of the tent. The engineering of this tent is pretty much idiot-proof if you're paying attention during set-up. We also noticed that at the top of the tent there was an orange loop and realized on the second set-up that this loop was there for threading the top tent pole through it for added stability. We missed that the first time we set it up.We camped in very hot weather. It was around 90 degrees in the heat of the day (2-4 pm) so we didn't spend time inside the tent during really hot hours as the humidity made staying inside for any length of time uncomfortable. On the upside, we appreciate the heat that the tent will hold in cooler temps. We also need to add that we were approximately 100 yards from the lake and thus the humidity was even higher due to the close proximity of the water to the tent.On the second set-up we used the orange parachute cording that comes with the tent to hold the fly in place over the tent. In the initial review we missed these cords and their use.Pros: this tent is solid; easy to set-up, roomy for two to four people (two if you're using cots); and easy to tear down. Also, the mesh completely kept out all bugs, even ants; that said, when we camp, we spray the lower parameter around the tent with bug spray, but the next morning after the dew had diminished the effects of the bug spray, we literally watched black ants crawling on the top of the tent mesh and they found no way inside the tent. We were very pleased to wake up without any unwelcome creatures inside the tent.Cons: the only window is found on the doors of the tent so ventilation is restricted during warm hours but we just left the windows opened until we were ready to bed down for the night, the fly covers so well you do not need a tarp overhead the tent unless your surroundings or inclement weather requires the additional protection. For us, this is an excellent tent. Easy to maneuver, easy to set-up, private, roomy and well-made. We believe this particular tent is suited for people who will be using it primarily for dressing and sleeping as it is not conducive to lounging if you're in a warmer climate with the fly cover on the tent. We are very satisfied with the purchase and we are looking forward to using it again very soon.
Purchased this tent a couple weeks ago so I could take my boyfriend camping for his first time. This tent was super easy to assemble and take down. It appears to be water resistant but couldn't really test it out. Only moisture it had on it was the dew from overnight. The tent is very spacious - we had a queen sleeping bag with plenty of walking room and room for my 56lb dog.
Have used this on 2 camping trips so far. Sets up easily and the 10x12 size is perfect for a queen size inflatable mattress, a porta potty, plastic container and clothes bag, and still plenty of room inside to maneuver and stand up. Can't comment on water proofness yet, so far we've had dry weather. It is very bug proof. Flies and mosquitoes have not found their way in. I'll update if we ever get rained upon.
