The expense of guinea pig food is ok. Try adding up how much money that you spend on treats. This high quality food has a variety of treats mixed in.Stop the extra expense, stop the boredom and give your guinea pigs food that they will not get tired of.Great quality of food and Great seller.
Well apparently this is not a great food to feed them according to Guinea Pig experts due to the sugary colorful bits and the seeds. Seeds can cause them to choke (possibly die!) or can tear up their stomachs. And the colorful pieces are sugary and just not good for them. With that said.... my pigs LOVE IT! It was my original food until I learned it wasn’t good, and when I switched to the plan pellets they had suggested, my pigs hated me, they no longer wheeked when they saw me... so I still give this as a treat but it’s not their main food.
More seeds than I expected. My guinea pig is already rather fat and doesn’t need all the seeds. We’re going to mix it with a “healthier” option

The pellets themselves are good. Timothy-based are best for adult cavies; alfalfa-based best for juveniles. However, these come in brittle plastic bags inside the shipping box with no padding. One had broken open and pellets had spilled and were falling out of the box, which was barely holding together. The others had been jostled to powder. This is a COMMON PROBLEM.1--Pellets are FRAGILE and need padding. If jostled, they turn to "fines" which are WASTE-- cavies (and rabbits) cannot eat fines. (Imagine trying to pick up granulated sugar with a tweezer.)2--Softer plastic would not burst as easily in cold weather as the cellophane-brittle type now used.3-- Boxes are packed too heavy. Don't put 40 or 50 lbs. of pellets in one box, because it is more likely to get dropped and broken. Besides, most people would rather lug 20 or 30 lbs. into their homes than 40 or 50.Overall this is a good product and the cavies like it, but there can be a lot of waste via bad packing and handling.
Of the several brands and types of food I have purchased, my piggies seem to prefer this brand/variety. They are not fans of the frills thrown in with other brands (the seeds, veggies, etc). They eat plenty of fresh food each day so for these, i think they just want the straight pellet. The pellets are well formed and the bottom of the bag wasn't full of dust like other brands.
My veterinarian recommended Timothy pellets and hay only for my cuy to keep him healthy. I used to buy the oxbow brand that's significantly more expensive but my pigs would go the bathroom in their food bowl and waste the pellets. I tried this out instead and they seem to prefer it although it does have some alfalfa meal in it. I guess it's better than a hunger strike but at least it doesn't have any of the extra junk in it that other foods have that's not good for your cavies.

My Zelda loves this food! Her favorite bits from her old food were dried pea flakes, this has a bunch in comparison! She gets Timothy hay in her manager everyday, so I'm not worried about the pellet to "other bits" ratio as some reviewers are. I'm keeping an eye though, just in case. The first ingredient does say Timothy hay, which is why I went with this food at all.Her guinea produced "pellets" are still firm and consistent, after a couple of weeks of this food. I have no cause for concern so far.She actually eats this food down more than she had her other. I have a lot less wasted bits!Disclosure: I'm not an avid guinea pig breeder, just a parent (with an impulsive mother-in-law) who fell for her daughter's surprise guinea pig. I adore our Zelda but I'm not super hyper about perfection in everything she does or eats. Please keep that in mind when heeding my review.
UPDATE:While I still use this food, I have begun mixing it with Oxbow and another food I get at a local pet store. I then mix in Rosewood Natural's nature salad or Sun Seed VitaPrima salad (I do pick out the dried bits that look like hard cranberries as I feel they could be a choking hazard). I decided to start adding Oxbow because it is one of the brands that I found to be highly recommended (healthwise). They won't eat the Oxbow alone so I have to mix some of this food in. I now pick out the colorful cereal-like bits in this food as I have found that they are essentially like piggy junk food and I now know that seeds are not generally recommended for guinea pigs as they can choke on some and others are fatty which can lead to future problems. Fortunately for me, my guinea pigs have not had any issues with seeds, but it is something to be aware of. If you are looking for a new food for your guinea pig I would encourage you to do your research for the sake of your guinea pig as many guinea pig foods have the equivalent of "junk food" mixed in which can lead to health problems later in life (not always, but sometimes).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The only thing that I did not care for was that there was a good amount of crumbs visible at the front of the bag. Perhaps this is simply due to shipping/travel. They do seem very fresh and crisp and my guinea pigs (who happen to be selective about their pellet food) appear to be satisfied with this pellet food as well as the treats it contains. I may buy it again as I have a hard time finding a food that my guinea pigs waste very little of.
My piggie is a picky little guy. He doesn't like much, even most veggies. I was worried I would never find a food that he liked. I spent months buying and trying out different foods. I finally found one that he liked but it was so expensive, I'd get it for double or even triple the price of this one. It was just too much. I was looking for an alternative that was a little more affordable. I ended up finding this one and I compared it to the brand that he likes and it was very similar, as far as ingredients and consistency, so I gave it a try -- and he liked it! I was, and am still, so happy! A good quality food for a great price, and he eats every bit of it. I'm so glad I found it.

My most recent order of this product was not what I usually recieve. The pellets are different sizes, some of them are even too big for a guinea pigs mouth. There are strange yellow bits that the previous bags did not have.I will update this review if my guinea pigs still enjoy eating them but as for now, they don't seem to be interested like the previous times I've ordered.Did Hartz change their product? I would really like to get a reply from the manufacturer.
I ordered this twice. The first time I received a different looking bag and had different ingredients with no artificial colors. So I ordered it again. The bag does not look as pictured (I received the pictureday one the first time) and has too ions of unnecessary ingredients in it that guinea pigs can't and should not be eating plus the artificial colors and preservatives.Even the pellets look 100% different than the first bag. This new bag has huge pellets, small pellets and yellow pellets. We have 4 gpigs so the price is great but the ingredients are not worth thevery the price. I will go back to buying kaytee.Would like to add pictures but for some reason. I do not have the option
I used to buy this product from Amazon for my three guinea pigs, and they used to love it. Now it's a different formulation and is made up of different sized pellets, unlike what is shown in the picture. My guinea pigs don't like the fat little pellets (that weren't there in my previous orders of this product) and spill them out all over the cage, then they get pee and drops of water from their bottles on them, and they make a huge mess. I won't be buying this product anymore - the quality has declined.

***Buyer Beware*** After a vet bill due to inhaling hay dust, I threw this garbage in the trash! I am extremely upset, this hay is mostly small particles, hay dust, and stalky sharp hay! I figured I would use it and never buy again. My bunny started having a running nose, sneezing, wheezing, & watery eyes. We took her to the vet today and found she has a bad respiratory infection. The vet said it was more than likely the dusty hay and to completely clean her cage, trash the hay, and gave her antibiotics. This was a nightmare that could have been prevented. Do not use this hay!
I was buying the Timothy hay plus had like a big big with inside little bags of hay mixed with mangos, cranberries and other dried fruits but they no longer are selling that unfortunately:/ so I started buying this they do like it but liked the other one better with al the different fruit choices so they didn’t get bored of same one. This hay is nice though, fresh very green. The size is like two bread loafs put together. You don’t get very many of the dried carrots in the bag though :/
My rabbit kept getting "poopy butt" (real term btw) and the vet said to stop feeding her pellets completely and just feed timothy hay. It works! no poopy butt at all. The vet said that they only need the pellets when they are young and adult bunnies only need the hay. Side note: Carrots, strawberries etc. have a lot of sugar in them and that causes poopy butt in rabbits.
