When I first purchased this backpack, I was a little wary with the white and light teal color. I worried it would dirty quickly, but the reviews looked good and I figured If I was careful and mindful of where I was storing it I would be good to go because this looked perfect for what I need it for. However, as soon as I pulled this out of the box, i noticed It was already stained!!! Apparently it was stained before packing because this stain could not have come from anything in the box. I’m attaching photos of the stains AFTER I attempted to scrub them out with a wet soapy wash cloth. There was a free locker light up vanity thing that was in the large main pocket. I haven’t seen anyone else in the reviews post about it, so I’m wondering if this was added for free because they knew it was stained? I can’t use it anyway because I’m in college and I do not have a locker. I’m giving this 3 stars though because besides the stain, this backpack is absolutely everything I was looking for. It feels very sturdy even after I loaded it up with everything from my old backpack and my purse. With everything loaded in, it felt pretty heavy, but as soon as I put the straps on it felt like nothing. It’s very comfy to wear! So overall, I’d recommend this backpack for sure, just maybe don’t get a light color Incase it comes stained.
Best backpack I've owned.Bought it in 2013. I've recommended it to so many friends I figured I'd write a review to recommend it to strangers.I hike a lot. This backpack has been to more mountains, waterfalls, cliffs, boulders, and national parks than most of my friends. I rode down an inactive volcano on it once (not an exaggeration, check out Mojave trails National monument it's a great place). It has room inside it for me 3L platypus, a 3L spare bladder, and a couple snacks.I also fly several times a year. It's been back and forth across this country, plus to a few others. It can be crammed, while fully stuffed, under an airplane seat. Plenty of room to pack everything I need for a week long business trip or 2 week vacation.I also take classes. It comfortably holds all my books, has great interior pockets for organizing pens, pencils, sunblock, notebooks. Good exterior pockets for a water bottle, chapstick, lotion.Despite all this use it still looks nearly brand new, except the tsa broke one of the zippers off a year ago. Still mad about that, honestly. It's amazing and I love it. I'd say I plan to use it til it wears out but it'll probably outlive me.
I've had the bag for over a month now and it is excellent so far. I have used it every day. The pockets help me keep things organized. I specially like the pockets on top to put sunglasses and wallet. I also like to two pockets on the side to carry two bottles - one for water and one for coffee. There is also a hook inside the front pocket to keep keys in place.I originally bought the bag for a backpacking trip but have ended up using it every day for work. I use it to carry my laptop, book, and other smaller items like chargers, headphones, stationary etc. So far the bag has held up well - no tears yet. I chose the light Aquamarine color. When it arrived, it seemed a little brighter than I expected. But it has grown on me and I now love the color.

I just got it and noticed a number of updated features: nylon material seems stronger, claims water resistant (no longer has a rain cover in base, redesigned harness and nicely adjustable cross strap which seems better, bigger water bottle pockets (maybe the bottles won't fall out when I take the pack off), no waist strap (which may be the only negative as I used that to take a heavy load off my shoulders on long hikes), the headphone compartment now is right side up so stuff won't fall out when you open it (but still too small a pocket for my over the ear Jabra's), zippers seem to have been redesigned - will see if the stitching lasts (previous models zipper stitches came loose after two years of use and bag was useless after that). The two main pockets have a nylon flap over it (rain protection?) but it definitely is stiff and makes using the zippers difficult - I fold it over backwards. Added soft lining to tiny front media pockets and added a mesh bag to the mid-pocket, retained all the nice features of the front pocket (key hook, small zippered compartment, separate nylon compartments for pens and sunscreen, etc). back seems to have been improved with padding with air groove/ spine relief. For the price I'm pretty happy, retains the side compression straps I use to get the bag thru airline size restrictions, still has a "secret" vertical side pocket which is nice for passport or extra cash or important documents - will update when I get back from 11 week trek in Asia as to how it holds up to daily use.
We bought two of this same model of backpack for my kids years ago and challenged them to see how long they would last. This is after an entire childhood of me buying whatever was on sale at Target or Walmart which inevitably fell apart halfway through the school year, if not sooner. When I say that I “challenged” them, I really mean I flat-out bribed them. I told my daughter that if she could make her High Sierra backpack last all four years of high school, I’d buy her a laptop. (Why, yes, I am an idiot sometimes, but that’s neither here nor there). My daughter’s in her last semester of high school and I JUST had to replace the original High Sierra backpack! And let me tell you, she had that sucker packed to the brim every single day - textbooks, school supplies, Chromebook, hoodies, possibly a whole litter of Labrador puppies. (I’m not sure. I never checked, but it *did* seem to be stuffed pretty full). The few times I had to move it, I could barely lift it. That’s how much abuse that backpack was getting, and it *still* lasted through darn near four years of HS and looked pretty good. I expect this one to go to college with her. I just bought one for myself too!It took me roughly 4,000 years of parenting to realize that for certain items it’s definitely worth it to spend a little more for quality instead of buying the cheapie stuff that falls apart. Newsflash, parents: you are not required to buy your kids a new backpack every single year! And with this High Sierra backpack, you won’t have to!
I got this to replace my old Sierra back back that measures 14 wide x 19 tall x 9 deep. it could hold enough clothing and other needs for 4- 5 days. My few gripes about my old bag was that it was not quite tall enough, had only one side water bottle holder and the zippers constantly stuck and occasional become unzipped below the zipper pull. The new pack I got says it measures15 wide x 20 tall x 9.5 deep but this in in fact not true. It in fact measures 15 x 20 x 6 and tapers off more significantly towards the top than my old one that was more square. When I got it in the mail it struck me as looking small. I figured it was just compressed from being backed abut when when i fully uncompressed it side by side the new pack is noticeable much smaller. Though the new pack has two bottle holders on either side and more padding than my old pack it lacks a waist strap, has no included rain guard and is supposed to be an "update". The access two is in reality a scaled-down version of the first model.

The best thing about this bag is the name, High Sierra. Other than that, I am singularly unimpressed. I purchased the bag for my daughter at the beginning of the semester specifically for the wheels. It was delivered 8/28/14. She takes two classes at the community college, two days a week, and rides the bus. The textbooks are large and heavy, but all she carries in the bag is two textbooks, a couple of notebooks, and a lab book. Within a few weeks the wheels began to sag. I examined the bag, and discovered that screws on both wheels had apparently fallen out. I replaced them with stainless steel screws, washers, and locking nuts. I had to disassemble one side in order to replace the screws, so I learned more than I wanted to know about the poor construction of this bag. If you are looking for a wheeled bag that can actually carry a load for any length of time, then keep on looking, cause this ain't it. Check out the uneven wear on the wheel in the attached photo of the repaired bag.
Purchased for my kids (under 10 yrs old) so they wouldn't have to carry such a heavy backpacks every day. However, there is not multiple height placements on the handle shaft. I'm over 6' and it was still too high for me (see pics). I had to drill out a new hole so they could use them (see pic). Manufacturer should not have been so cheap to save a buck and should have already predrilled an extra hole or two.
I bought this to replace my S-ZONE Wheeled Backpack that I bought in December of 2017. The handle on the S ZONE broke off so I decided to spend a little more on a brand name backpack.PROS.I like the way this backpack converts from a backpack to a rolling luggage. instead of a zippered pouch that forces you to have to stop ..unzip...stuff the shoulder straps and then rezip them ...the Hi Sierra has an open pouch that you can quickly shove the shoulder straps into so they don't drag on the ground. It takes just seconds and you are ready to go from backpack to rollers and back again. Very niceI have been using this to carry everything from groceries to a airplane carry on and so far it has performed excellent. Very well made.CONS1. I wish the High Sierra had outside pockets on BOTH sides. (instead of just one side) so you can keep a water bottle in one...and something else like an umbrella in the other.2. MY old S-ZONE was able to hold more groceries than the Hi Sierra. That said I can still stuff a lot in the Hi Sierra if I pack it right.I wish the outer pockets had more material so they could hold extra stuff. Once the main compartment is packed tight..its hard to add anything to the outside pockets so they become rather useless for storage

So this backpack is actually pretty amazing. Not only does it fit almost all of my nursing books, but it's sturdy and strong! So here's the story! I was walking home and tried to beat the crosswalk light. Spoiler alert: I didn't beat the crosswalk light. I get hit by a car and flip, landing with my entire weight onto the backpack. I had my Macbook Pro in the sleeve, and my phone in the side pocket netting. I just got HIT BY A CAR AND LANDED ON THIS THING. I I was completely alright. My ribs, hips, and right calf are bruised, but I'm no worse for ware. So, with my priorities straight, I immediately begin to worry about my phone as the driver is calling 911. And this side pocket is so awesome that the netting is keeping it perfectly in place! Not a single scratch! So I check up laptop because I LANDED ON IT WITH ALL OF MY WEIGHT! My laptop was 100% fine and dandy! This backpack is pretty freaking amazing. TOTALLY worth the money and just plain awesome! 10/10 recommend!
If you’re looking for a durable backpack with tons of storage space, look no further! This backpack is perfect for high school and college students, as well as adults. As a college student myself, I have worn through several backpacks over the years and several of my peers credited their High Sierra backpacks for their long lifespan and dependability. I finally caved and bought the Swerve last November and have absolutely loved using it ever since. My major criteria for selecting a new backpack were: (1) durability, (2) storage space, (3) affordability, and (4) adequate protection for electronic devices such as a personal computer. When comparing brands, High Sierra met all of my criteria, while its competitors were lacking in some areas. My Swerve looks brand new yet, has room to store all of the supplies I need for school and spare workout clothing, and was well within my price range (compare to previous backpack purchases of $80 and $110). Additionally, High Sierra boasts a fully padded computer sleeve fitting up to 17” laptops. My 3-year old MacBook Pro has notoriously had its hard drive cable replaced seven times. Hard drive cables on laptops are often worn from being carried inside a backpack and pushed up against books inside and that had been a constant problem with my past backpacks. Since switching to the Swerve, I haven’t had any problems with my laptop’s hard drive! My only major complaint about this product is that everyone seems to have a black High Sierra backpack – sometimes it’s hard to tell yours apart from others. My boyfriend actually had the Access backpack in black as well and even though the designs are different, it is difficult to tell at first glance. I have also heard that the zippers are poor quality, but I have yet to experience any difficulties or problems with mine. If anything I mentioned in my review as a positive characteristic for my top criteria matches up with your own, strongly consider the Swerve as your next backpack purchase. It’s an excellent, versatile product that will not disappoint and can meet just about any need or purpose you decide to use it for.
This is the best backpack I have ever owned. I am 72 years old and have had a lot of backpacks in those years. I am blessed with great physical health. So, I play competitive table tennis 5-7 times per week for 3-5 hours at a time. I wanted a backpack with a lot of good sized zippered compartments. I usually carry 4-5 table tennis paddles in their own zippered cases in the 2 large pockets. I have one pocket I use to for snacks and bottled coconut water, the small one at the top for my keys and some table tennis balls, and the 5th pocket holds my table tennis cleaning bottles and sponges. This bag is huge and exactly what I was looking for.I have not tried to use it for my laptops, but there would be plenty of room. It is no wonder this backpack is ranked #1 in the brief cases category on Amazon. It his well made and the zippers work very well. Remember there are 2 pockets that are zipped under water protective lips. I imagine I could throw this pack in a lake and it would survive for a period without leaking. The 1 think I had to fix were the shoulder straps. If you use both shoulder straps, no issue. But, they slipped off of my shoulder as I usually just sling the pack over one of my shoulders when I use it. So I purchased 2 of the (B07177XGKM) SongWei Replacement Shoulder Pads Velcro Adjustable with Memory Foam Long and Comfortable Black-2Pcs for $12.99 and they are awesomely cool and work great at a great price. I don't believe there is a better pair of shoulder pads for backpack straps on Amazon.I love the size, the color and the quality.

Updated Review:Changed to 3 stars from 5. While it is absolutely true that this bag can hold more than you probably think it would, it is just not comfortable. No matter what, the bag does not ever seem to settle into a comfortable position on my back, and due to its shape, it always feels like it's pulling me backwards. I didn't realize how much I was missing until I got the North Face Recon pack, and now this thing has been relegated to a different duty. The main compartment is actually so big that it has to be absolutely stuffed for it to balance properly if anything is in the front, and at that point it puffs out and back so far that it's just not comfortable. The straps don't really help, as they appear to be designed in a way that does not keep the bag high up on your back. Even when fully tightened up, I always feel like I'm working against this bag, and on top of that, as I mentioned below, the extra slack on the strap pulls is comically excessive, hanging down far past my hips. It's not a total loss, as I am a musician and I can definitely still use this bag for all of my cables and tools and whatnot, but it's definitely not my primary bag any more. It's worth the price for the carry space alone, but I would not want to take this thing on a hike or any other situation where I needed it to be comfortable.I’m still running this bag through the various trials and tribulations a bag has to go through, but so far I’m very happy. The amount of space in the main compartment especially is impressive, and it doesn’t even seem it when you look at it. I went to the grocery store the other day, and the main part of the bag happened to be empty, and I decided “what the hell?” - time to see just how much this thing can take. You can check the attached photos - I took a whole grocery bag and literally dropped it in there. A full carton of orange juice, a can of coffee, another large juice container and a bottle of hand soap - fit in with absolutely no issues! As you can see, there was probably another 30% of the room left near the top of the compartment where I could have fit even more. Please note: the smaller compartment was LOADED with work folders and documents, as well as an iPad. The Fat Boy swallowed it all right up.With it all loaded up, it felt fine on my shoulders. There was plenty of weight but it wasn’t uncomfortable. I’ve seen others complain about the zippers, but they feel sturdy and smooth to me. They only get caught when the backpack is more on the empty side and the zipper track itself isn’t lined up, so I don’t even know how that would be avoided. The one criticism I have so far is due to the shape and the oversized main compartment, this pack will sit awkwardly on your back if the front compartments are more filled than the back. This is a pretty specific complaint though, as I like to keep my work stuff in the front part and then keep the back open for workout clothes and other bigger stuff that won’t often fit in other bags. I doubt many people will run into this issue. The only other weird thing is that the strap adjusters are long...strangely long. Right now mine has about 6 inches of adjustment remaining and the outer part of the strap with the eyelet is about 12 inches, just dangling. That much slack is definitely not necessary or usable, but it’s not a dealbreaker.Pack seems to be well-made and durable. I will update when I take it out on a hike. I was a bit concerned about not having a chest strap, but it seems to fit my frame really well as is, so it might not even be necessary. I’ll update as I keep going!
This bag was great when I first got it but slowly it began to fall apart. I thought his was a quality name. The best part I have never put more that 10 pounds of stuff in it..... Very disappointed
I use this as my work bag and it holds a lot. I pack my lunch, two 24oz insulated water bottles, a 7oz thermos for espresso, a compact Bible, sometimes a small umbrella, and various things that I need to get through the day. So far it still looks new. There are no signs of wear. I'm so glad that I didn't have to spend over $100 for a quality work bag. I got the black one to keep things simple and professional. I would definitely buy this bag again.
