I set out to make a "nearly" silent PC, in that I didn't want to go fanless, but I wanted it to have the fans running so slowly (or off) during normal operation that it was silent, and it was only during intensive activities that the fans would ramp up. And I wanted a fair amount of horse-power too so that I could effortlessly do my engineering work (mechanical part creation and PCB layout work mostly). The key to doing that is getting both a CPU and GPU that while high horsepower are also very efficient and then cooling them with well designed heatsinks that don't take a large amount of airflow and fans that run quietly and allow for very granular control at low RPMs.For the CPU I'm glad I chose the Intel Core i3-8100. 14 nm technology allows them to have a 4-core processor running at 3.6 GHz but still only generates 65 watts. I don't think there's a better combination of horsepower and efficiency on the market right now. It's a real winner and when paired with the GTX 1050 Ti GPU, this computer rocks while not generating a lot of heat. Measured from the wall outlet, it's usually below 100 watts total. But it is also quiet. Pairing this CPU with a good CPU cooler (Cooler Master Hyper T2), a good fan (Noctua NF-B9) and powering it with an EVGA 650 GQ PSU in "eco mode" I have built a truly silent PC in all but the most intensive work situations. Using my pretty sensitive dB meter, I can not detect it being on. I have to do the test in the middle of the night, because even cars going by outside are detectable. But at 3 AM, it reads 21.1 dB with the PC off and 21.1 dB with it on. My stomach gurgles and the stupid thing goes up to 24 dB or I click the mouse and it goes up to over 30 dB so trust me when I say the dB meter is sensitive enough to detect pretty small readings. To be fair and give a caveat, to keep it silent, the fans are running at 13% on the rear of the case, 10% on the CPU and 5% on the GPU. But that's just enough air flow with the good heatsinks that in normal operation the system temp stays around 40 and both the CPU temp and GPU temps stay in the mid 50's.Build details:Intel Core i3-8100 CPUMSI Z370M Mortar motherboardGigabyte GTX 1050 Ti "Windforce OC" GPU (Note: Gigabyte is the only vendor with a good fan controller on their 1050 GPU. The other companies have junk 2-pin fans, see my review on that product for more details on how I modded it to be more quiet.)2 of 4 GB DDR4 2400 Kingston Fury DIMMsSamsung 960 EVO M.2 SSDEVGA 650 GQ PSU in eco mode
I really can't believe that things have come so far that this is now considered a i3 processor but it works fine for me in my freshly built gaming rig. This is honestly one of the best budget gaming processor. If you're looking for a beast that will handle any modern game with no sweat this isn't the cpu for you. Running battlefield 1 multiplayer my cpu gets pegged at 100% of the time almost all the time but it still runs the game at a solid 60fps with no stuttering or issues and does not affect how playable the game is.
The top of the page is wrong. the I3-8350K only has 4 cores, not 6 cores and 12 threads.other than that miscommunication, it is a great possessor for a standard PC or budget gaming PC. i recommend 10/10.

just amazing . i also have the 7th gen i7 - 7700k in a GA-Z270X-Gaming 5 and ya its great but not for damn 359$ i guess if you just want to sling $ around. wished i would have known about this little fire ball because honestly for 89$ i think it was it blows that 359 away $ as far as being worth that much more $ for that 13% performance increase wtfe CAN YOU SAY HELL TO THE NO. cant go wrong with this 4 threaded monster of a budget cpu.couldnt be happier
Good process for what it's worth, don't buy if you plan to use it for CPU intensive tasks, it's a good start for any new PC builder, can handle most tasks even gaming just don't expect too much out of it, I bought this processor knowing that I'd be upgrading sometime in the near future, for now it hasn't given me any issues, runs cool with stock cooler during casual use (such as watching YouTube or playing games on low-mid settings)Pros: cheap, runs cool, decent stock cooler, great for budget build and Introductory PC buildCons: none as long as you don't have high expectations, not viable for high end tasks where peak performance is necessary, you get what you pay for
Played civ 6, tera, state of decay. And other games for people that are just looking for a few games to play that are not to recent great cpu. For the price heard its the best.

I have had this for a few days and installed with RX 580, MSI Gaming Plus Z370 Mobo, 24GB RAM and 960 EVO. Decent Gaming, Desktop and Workstation scores!
The main reason I bought this was for playing Word of Warcraft. It is doing very well at playing World of Warcraft. No integrated graphics but that doesn't matter since I am using graphics card. the only negative is no quick sync is available for video transcoding. Something to think about if you do that kind of thing.

I bought this Intel CPU after many years of using AMD. I didn't buy the "x" version as I was on a bit of a budget. That being said, this processor exceeds my demands and runs cool with the included cooler. I was using an AMD 8340 in the same case and had to go to a Corsair liquid cooler to keep CPU temps down in the 50 to 60 degree Celsius range. After pushing full detail on a hard race in Project Cars then checking temps right on Corsair Link, the temps are never over 42 c and come down to the mid 30's quickly. Plus the fan is quiet. Most of the noise in my system comes from the GPU. All in all, I am very happy with this CPU. It may not be the newest chip out there but it is doing exactly what I need it to do and then some at a price and noise level that is impressive.
Great processor working Pro Tools and Cubase. Fast and stable. Software synths and samples load fast, chews through projects be it keyscape or ominsphere, kontakt player etc... without sweat. This multi-tasking marvel, also works a charm in astrophotography, working as a tracking system controlling a apochromatic triple refractor telescope. This processor i7-7700, comes with the intel stock cooing fan which is more than sufficient to cool this processor. So you may not need to buy an aftermarket cooler.... i did... I chose to go with cooler master's g100m because it is gorgeous and silent in the studio, all the while, putting on a led light show in the studio while writing music and editing videos or tracking galaxies. it helps bring some color in the usually dark studio environment and it keeps the i7-7700 cool even under load while maintaining silence in the studio. For what I do, the intel core i7-7700 is a great song writer and a wonderful telescope tracking system. Thank you Intel!
These cpus are incredibly nice, Intel's cpus are working better than ever and they are amazing for anything from gaming to casual use, and even things like high end gaming and processing like video editing. All of these cpu's are incredibly easy to install so that shouldn't be a problem for people. It comes with a cpu fan so that's a nice bonus but it is good to know what you are going to use it for, if you are going to be doing a lot of demanding be sure to get a better cpu fan to keep your temperatures low.Over all these CPU's are great for gaming and general use, the power you get the price is definitely worth it if you are looking for high end performance across the board.

My son asked me last month if he could get a new processor for his birthday (May 27). I told him that if I bought him one, that it would be his only present because of how expensive it was. He said he was ok with just opening 1 gift (mind you, he just turned 12). So after a lot of research, I came to the conclusion that the Intel 7 was the best processor for his PC. I ordered the item on May 13 and received it a couple days later. I didn't open the amazon box because I already knew what was in it. On May 27, 2019, my 12 year old son opened his only gift. To my surprise, the processor wasn't in the Intel 7 box that is shown in the description. Instead the processor was wrapped in brown paper. No instruction, no serial number, no fan, nothing. But I didn't really care about the fan because I had already purchased a better one. So, giving the product/company the benefit of the doubt, I installed the processor I ordered into my son's PC. And what should happen, nothing. I spent the rest of the evening researching why the processor wasn't working in his PC. But I didn't find anything on line that had the same problem as I was having. So, I decided to update the BIOS thinking that would make a difference, but it didn't. I even called my friend (who builds computers) to come look at it. After spending the evening researching, he said that everything was compatable and that there shouldn't be any reason the new processor shouldn't work, UNLESS there was something already wrong with the processor that I bought. He then recommended that I return it. I just filed a return claim. So now I'll wait and see if they will refund my money.
Wasn't expecting it to be a new chip but it was so polished that I can barely read the Intel 6700K logo. Can't test myself because I don't have another compatible board. Spent money to have a computer repair center test it and my ASUS ROG B150 Pro Gaming Aura motherboard, and another fee from Asus for an RMA on the board (haven't sent it in yet). The store says it is defective. Seller insists we're incompetent, me for ordering the incorrect CPU, and the store for failing to test it correctly. Although I bought the exact same CPU as the one that doesn't work. It is Skylake CPU for intel LGA 1151 socket, which replaces one that worked for years and stopped so I replace it with one from the seller. The problem: Nothing appears on screen but there's no CPU error light, just fan spins and board lights up. Buying this item from Amazon meant waiting a weeks for the package to clear through customs, then a surprise 70 customs fee, then diagnostics fees, all before contacting the sellers. So that's almost 500$ wasted on a metal stamp, most of which are fees that the seller isn't liable for and won't refund anyway. Then being insulted by the seller on top of it. My only option is seeking another computer store to test the CPU I bought AND my old one so the seller will be satisfied and will hopefully honor refund requested through Amazon, but that's going to cost another 70 diagnostic fee.
OK everyone, so here's the deal:This is an absolutely fantastic processor! I am upgrading my 6 year old computer (Intel Core2Quad Q9550) to this beast and let me tell you, I don't care what people are saying about Skylake this, Skylake that, it's amazing! Now, please, do yourself a favor, and if you're going to spend this kind of money on a component, have the decency of purchasing a Corsair H115i water cooler as well! On my first build I had used air cooling for the first 1 and a half or so, then I discovered Corsair water cooler (at the time I purchased the H55) and it's been wonders ever since. I was running Far cry 3 last night with this thing (stock mind you) on Ultra settings with a EVGA GTX 960 FTW edition, and was hitting 60 FPS stable at all times. (dropping to 59 or 58). Temps were 44 C - 50 C. IT wouldn't go past that while gaming. Fantastic product! Just buy it already! 🙂
