It seemed when I first started wearing 527's almost 15 years ago, it was a great jean - I could count on consistent sizing and they generally used quality fabric. Things have definitely changed over the years, as it seems they consistently use a VERY thin, cheap material for all their jeans, and the sizing is pretty random. After ordering a few different styles last year, I sent back the thin fabric jeans, but kept the thicker ones (the overhaul style) as they fit better and used a higher quality fabric. When I ordered the exact same jeans this year, the ones that arrived were not the same fit/fabric, but rather the same cheap, thin fabric as the different styles I sent back last year.Sadly, I can only offer two things: 1)For the price, you can surely find a better jean out there, 527's simply aren't worth it anymore. 2)If you decide to order ANY 527 styles, be prepared for a cheaply constructed jean that will potentially be a smaller than expected fit, unless you get lucky and randomly pick a style that uses better material that season. As for me, after over 20 years of predominantly choosing Levi jeans, regrettably I will no longer be a Levi's customer. No one should have to cross their fingers and hope that they receive a quality product, and after 3 years of experiencing inconsistent material and sizing, I'm done with the 527 line and Levi's as a whole.
Levi's has a naming problem that just boils my biscuits! Why the heck can't you just say "black jeans" instead of "Native Cali"... and don't get me started on how "Indigo Black" is basically blue. Their stupid color terms always puts online orders at risk of what color I'll actually end up with. That aside, Levi's also has a sizing problem. There is a really helpful review that explains that the sizing is different depending on where the jeans were made, and the reviewer does a great job of explaining the differences. I ordered three different pairs of 32" by 32" jeans to test the review theory. Two came from one country and the third from another. The two from one country (Native Cali and Indigo Black) both fit perfectly and were exactly the same as my favorite pair of 527s from back in the day. The one from the other country (Medium Chipped) couldn't even get over my hips and was around 2 inches too small to even button despite the tag saying that the size was 32" by 32". Did I instantly gain 2 inches to my waistline? Or does Levi's have a problem that has become so consistent that you have to read a helpful review to figure out the real sizing? I'll let you decide which, but the short of it is check out that review because if you don't, you may end up with either a larger waist then you thought or jeans that don't fit!Quick sidenote, it was thanks to Prime Wardrobe that I was able to try all 3 without having to pay upfront. That was really convenient since I was able to turn around and easily send the Medium Chipped pair back before I was charged. If you need to play around with sizes, check out Prime Wardrobe!
After 35 years of brand loyalty, I have purchased my last pair of Levis. This review is for two pairs of exchanged jeans due to the first set’s inferior quality. I have included photos to back my claims, as I am aghast at what the Levis brand has become. Manufactured in Pakistan, both pairs are garbage: thin cotton, inconsistent measurements, cheap stitching, and colorization issues are the highlights. In the pictures, I’ve laid one pair over the other, and both are the same brand, model, and color. One can easily see that the second pair under the first if a full size larger in the waist and inseam. Also, the stitching and color is vastly different. Again, these are the same jeans made in the same part of the world. It’s outrageous to keep sending bad product back to Levis only to receive even worse product in exchange. Levis is no longer a premium brand. If you desire quality jeans, you must certainly look somewhere else. I am convinced due to observing Levis’ downfall over the last decade that this brand has no desire to turn back the clock and once again offer their customers a decent product.

Made in 1969 to fit over boots, the Levi's 517 Bootcut Jeans for men have been tried and true for generations. Cut to sit at the waist, slim through thigh with an authentic bootcut leg. They're durable, comfortable and have always looked good.

User reviews

These 517's are the real deal. I've not changed my pants for forty some years. Still wearing Levis! But I was getting close to changing because of the thinner, cheaper denim they've been using lately. I was happy to see as I had been led to believe, that these are the same old sturdy, stiff and thicker denim. They call this "Raw Unwashed Denim". So if you're looking for the original thickness, make sure you order the "Raw Unwashed" version. I knocked them down to a 4 star only because of the price. You can buy them cheaper elsewhere but I paid the higher price because of the return policy. If they weren't the heavier denim, they would have been sent right back. Hope this helps you! Ted
I've worn Levi 517's for 30 years, and it seems the material weight is getting lighter and flimsier as time goes on. It's bad enough that such an American icon is made in foreign countries and still costs what it would if good paying, American workers. What's the profit margin on these, I wonder? Also, I know Levi's have always had some bleeding of the dye used, but I've washed this pair twice, and both times the water was so dark blue as it washed and rinsed, I couldn't see any of the clothes in the water. (Only wash blue clothes with these the first 4 or 5 times or you'll be sorry). The second wash was just as dark as the first. As I said, they aren't nearly as stiff as the old heavy duty material, and the dye must be some cheap stuff, but after the first wash they seemed very 'flimsy' compared to the old days, when they were so stiff you couldn't hardly bend your legs or sit down for the first half dozen washes. Engineered for maximum profits, not maximum life.
I always wear the same levi;s 517 boot cut 32 x 34 and they always fit but this pair of levi's 517 boot cut 32 x 34 is way too small.. I always wash them before I wear them and like I said this is the ONLY brand and style I ever buy so generally I don't have to try them on before I wash them. This pair I have to spray the waist with water and stretch them before I can even get them buttoned. I don't know if the wrong tags got put on them or just a different assembly line that their measurements are a bit different but these are definitely not the regular Levi's 517 boot cut 32 x 34 that I usually get, and I have been ordering these online for the last 15 years. So buyer beware of the size changes and try them on before washing even if you buy the same style and size every time. So after a couple more washes I probably won't even be able to get them on. What a waist of good money due to inconsistency of sizes from the assembly lines or mistagging the item.

The pants fit my son great, he is 6’ tall and on the slim side so I got him a 32x32. They have a soft jean feel (meaning not stiff) and they are semi stretchy so that’s a plus as well.
Bought these for a simple date night. Easily paired for the occasion. I definitely didn’t expect such good quality for the price, but will be purchasing other colors soon.
I wound up returning these jeans because they were a big too big in the waist and crotch area. They had that baggy feel from the thigh area up. The legs were okay but not as slim as I wanted them to taper down. I had ordered a 38x32 and really could have used a 36x30 which was not available. Although they did not work for me they did seem to be of good sturdy quality. They also are stretch material but thicker than some of the other stretch jeans I have. I would have ordered them again if the size I needed was available.

With a versatile fit, the 513 slim straight jeans sit below the waist and are slim through the thigh with a straight leg. This pair has just the right amount of stretch for all-day comfort. Best for slim to athletic builds.

I'm not sure if Amazon's supply of Levi's is from their "irregular" rack or what exactly is going on but there's a real quality and consistency discrepancy between the jeans I ordered directly from the Levi's website and the jeans I ordered from here. Both times I ordered two pairs of 34X32 513s in the Bastion wash/fabric blend. The pairs that arrived from Levi's directly fit my husband perfectly but the pairs I received from Amazon are literally four inches too long and will have to be taken to a tailor for them to be wearable (I tried to convince him that tight-rolling jeans was back in style so I could avoid the hassle but he didn't believe me). The initial discount in ordering off Amazon isn't going to amount to anything after I pay for the jeans to be hemmed. I'm not sure why 34X32 is a measurement on the Levi's site but is a vague estimate when it comes to the pairs I buy on Amazon? In the future I'll pay more up front or wait for a sale on the Levi's site so I know I'll be receiving wearable jeans rather than the 34X36s that I've got now.
these are the best jeans ever, especially for someone who grew up as a teen in the 1960s. these are akin to slimmer fit version of 501s that had a zipper. most of us in middle school wore these until '68 and later when bells and boot cut took over.alas, i'm a product of my formative years so while i wear the levi slim bootcut with boots, i wear these for all other wear with either dressy shoes, or super casual, depending on the denim wash you get, these can take you to an expensive dining evening, or playing basketball. i have 2 pair that cover that range with different washes.i will say the waist size varies up to almost an inch at times, but that doesn't really matter. the last pair i got came a bit tighter, but these stretch so after a few wearings they stretched out to perfect. this pair came at about the waist size of my other pair AFTER it stretched, which is fine. they both are the same size. my other pair has a lighter/more worn wash, these are dark with almost no wash to them, for dressing up. they aren't 'skinny' jeans, but just tapered along those mid 1960s lines so they fit low on the waist and slim in the hips and legs, but aren't tight from the knees down, just a nice taper.this model, 513, is not usually made visible on the levi website, and you have to know about them or you won't really find them, but after 501s they are the iconic style of the 1960s...they are technically called 'slim straight fit', which is what they are. straight fit, just a bit lower waisted and slimmer in fit.best of the best. as said, waist fit is not horribly critical as long as you get close. i'd get them snug as they do stretch out to fit. however, i've found that like all clothes these days, maybe it's ego gratification for customers, but what used to be a 33 waist is now a 32. in all other jeans or pants i take a 33 waist. i took a 32 in junior high. i bought these in 32 waist...i think they are just stroking my ego with that. but if it helps you pick your right size, i share it.
I decided to try these 513s after having owned a pair of 511s a few years ago. I'm a thin guy at 6'0 150lb, and the 511s felt far too much like skinny jeans even though they're labeled as slim. They hugged every part of my leg and the rise was far too short for men's "parts" to have breathing room.I had a hard time finding anything comparing the differences between the 513 and 511 - The 513s are just a more breathable 511 in my opinion. They are the perfect alternative for someone looking for slim, but avoiding the skin tight feel. These were better fit and quality than many jeans I had paid triple the price for. Definitely recommended.**Update** After a little over a year these jeans have just started to show enough thinning/fraying around the knees and back pockets for me to warrant buying a replacement pair before holes start to appear. For the price and considering heavy usage, that's a pretty great lifespan.

A modern slim with room to move, the 511 Slim Fit Stretch Jeans are a classic since right now. These jeans sit below the waist with a slim fit from hip to ankle. This pair has just the right amount of stretch for all-day comfort. Cut close to the body, the 511 Slim is a great alternative to the...

Levi's 511 jeans have the best odds of being a good fit for me.Buyers should note that fit varies wildly between colours because the different colours:1. Are made of different materials (some materials have a lot of elastane, some have very little, which affects stretch and fit); and2. Are made in different countries (a pair of Levi's 511 from Indonesia fits completely differently from 511s made in Mexico, which fit totally differently from 511s made in Bangladesh). As a result, I returned all of the other colours that I ordered; I kept only one colour and then re-ordered that colour only.Levi's has a lot of work to do to normalize patterns to ensure that jeans sourced from different countries all have the same fit.Until they do so, getting a good fit when ordering online will continue to be like playing a lottery.
When these jeans arrived, I thought they were fake. The denim felt thin and cardboard stiff. But I wore them a lot and washed them a little, thinking it was just a problem with new jeans. My first impression was correct. I’ve owned several pairs of these exact 511 Levi’s, but this was the first bought online. I don’t know if these are “fake,” but these are not like the Levi’s you’d buy at a department store. While the jeans look fine, the fabric is very thin and it has not gotten any softer with age - which is what happens with real denim. What upsets me is that I didn’t save anything buying on Amazon; it was just convenient. I’m sticking with department stores for jeans from now on.
Great jeans, I'm 6'4, 190 lbs. They fit great, no skinny, no loose. color is perfect, but it will fade according to all the reviews I've read. My size is 34X36, they run one size smaller than the 501 and 513. If you have big, bulky, weightlifter legs...this might not be for you. If you are tall and slim, they will fit perfect. I recommend going to a store to try for size, before buying online. I also own the 511 Rinse Playa, which have a thinner fabric. I like the Rigid Dragon better. Weight is perfect, not heavy denim, but not light either. the 1% Elastane works great. Sorry about the low quality of the pictures, crappy phone camera.
