What can I say. Great product. I already used an earlier product but this new twist is even better. The longer length and NO BINDING is fantastic. A nice upgrade to an already perfect product.
Lightweight easy to install on the motorhome. Works exactly as claimed. Folds up nicely when not in use and I can lift it!
Nice lightweight tow bar if 7500 lb towing if you don’t neee 10K. Logo label stays on better than the letters on the Aclaim.

The product worked and was an easy install if you have the right tools. The final setting required a torque wrench, and not everyone will have one of those laying around. So, if you are going to use it, take it off, store it and use it again; you will have to include a torque wrench in your kit if you break it down. Also, I was sent a box that had been previously opened, re taped, and sent to me as new. The original manufacturer outer box was in such bad shape I was reluctant to open it and thought I should just return without opening. However, I took a chance and opened it. The parts inside had been removed from the original packaging but I think everything was there. If I had know I was buying a previously opened product, I would not have purchased this. A new in the box product would have raised it one more star. Also, the tow bar comes with a set of brackets that are decent but not as good as I would want to pull a rig any significant distance. CURT makes another Bracket that is much beefier and has places to attach chains. ( Available on Amazon as CURT 19747 Adjustable Tow Bar Bumper Brackets )
This unit is well designed and sturdy. The mounting brackets are 100% welded 3/8 plate. The tube steel has 1/8" walls, same as the Jeep I am towing. All grade 5 Hardware.*NOTE* The hardware included *IS* correct. The Nuts are metal Locknuts, so they will only go on by hand a few threads before you have to wrench it. And once tight, these will not back off.So you do not need to go to the hardware store with this kit.
It did the job. I towed a 04 Dodge 1500 about 500 miles. I had to take off the bumper and attach the brackets to the bumper plates, drilling one hole on each plate the other hole was already there by the factory. The hardware is very tight which made it hard to put on but they never loosened during the tow. But this also made it hard to make sure the hardware was tight. I highly suggest the use of a torque wrench and following the prescribed torque's. The reason for 4 stars us because it dosent come with u bolts to attach safety chains. I ended up bolting the chains to the tow bar with grade 8 bolts. Over all it did the job well and I would suggest it

Works well. Buy with confidence. We've been towing our GMC Terrain with this for 2 years now. Only tip I have... don't forget to put the car in park before you disconnect... you look stupid chasing down your car as it rolls away.
Works, but does not unlatch easily. Arrived scratched (box not damaged) Missing zip tie on one of the boots, was not found in box, so it was shipped missing. Decals look like they were applied by a 3 yr old. (misaligned) While none of this is a big deal, it calls into question the quality control over the product and leaves some doubt into the workmanship of the components you can't see.
This tow bar is amazingly simple to use. We installed the baseplate on our car and this towbar on our RV only days before a 2500 mile trip. The trip went flawlessly. It is so easy to connect and disconnect the car, and we loved that this bar folds up and stays on the RV. We originally bought an economy bar but never used it. So glad we went with this upgraded bar. Also, of the dozen or more RVs we saw on our trip towing cars, most of them had this same tow bar and no one had any complaints about it.

The one star I give is not for the product pictured. It is for the product I received, which is different from the one pictured in two ways. Here are the differences - on the one I received, the pieces/couplers on the end of each shaft which attach to the base plates are actually permanently attached to the base plates. Then at installation the shafts are attached to that assembly. That means that when the shaft is removed for storage, the enture assembly, baseplate and coupler would be left on the towed vehicle. Worse than that is the fact that the four loops/rings on the body of the shafts, two on each side are missing from the one sent me. Therefore, there is no place on the shaft to hook the safety chain while towing. Actually, the one sent me deserves no star at all but a "D" for dangerous because of the missing rings for the hooks on the safety chains.
tows nicely
Didn't have safety chains brackets but will work fine.

We bought the Trail-Gator a couple of years ago, but I didn;t post a review until I accidentally came across this product again and noticed few negative posts.I have to admit that initially we did have few issues and, unfortunately, had to figure out the best way to mount it based on the trial and error, as opposed to relying on the enclosed documentation. I think this is where the manufacturer should improve.I believe most of the problems with the mounts can be solved by wrapping a layer or two of the rubber strips cut out from the old tire tubes around the head tube of the kid's bicycle both on the bracket and the screws side, and making sure the screws are very very tight.Eventually this worked great for us and my child and I are very happy and satisfied with the product. We are certainly a lot more confident now when planning longer trips knowing that if the hills or the distance is too much for my child's 16" single speed bike, we can always attach it and turn into a tandem.I think this is a good product, and I do recommend it to anyone, just be prepared to spend some time figuring out the best way to fit it.The documentation won't be of much help. It's not a 'rocket science', but, unless something changed, it doesn't come with IKEA-like step-by-step instructions. The bracket comes with several inserts that can help you with adjusting the height of the front wheel of the attached bike. So, this should fit a number of different combinations of the parent and child bikes geometries and sizes. Also, make sure to take it easy on the first few rides until you're confident the mounting bracket is attached securely to your child's bike and does not slide.
**Mine was missing hardware when it arrived. I purchased the quick release pin and a few other parts separately, and Amazon gave me a discount, so I will not let that effect my review otherwise, but its worth noting**Installation takes for ever. I'm a fairly competent weekend warrior mechanic, and this took me a couple hours to get the torque specs right, adjust, readjust, etc.. Directions are terrible (mine were torn). If you use common sense, they eventually become coherent. The idea behind this product is brilliant. Its one of just a few out there that will let your child ride his/her bike and then reconnect them when they get tired. I didn't want a Follow-Me product because they cant ride independently. Love the idea of this, but its a little on the cheap side and flimsy.Lots of folks complained about the part that connects to the child's bike frame coming lose and turning. I stuck anti-slip rubber pieces under and torqued to spec with a torque wrench and I didn't have any issues. However, I do have the leaning issue that many complain about. I've read that if you change the rotation of the seat post connection piece that should minimize or eliminate the lean. I have had little luck after readjusting a few times. I'll give it a go once more, but I think its just a matter of fact with these.Either way, both my 3 year old and 5 year old boys love riding behind me. We just took this on the Peddlers' Jamboree in Iowa (22 miles each way) and they had a blast. The lean is a little annoying and can make steering a little awkward for the parent. I hit the gravel a couple times because my kids were leaning back and forth (intentionally). They didn't complain about it being uncomfortable or annoying, but its there. Its less pronounced with the lighter child. Its quick and easy to switch from towing to independent riding. Just undo a few quick release pins and you can switch in 2 min flat. No problem and I'm impressed at how easy it is, and how well it stays put on my bike when not in use. With that said, we're keeping it. Not the best, but fun and works well enough.
We have logged about 70 miles with this setup. It has been awesome. My 3 year old son has been able to stick with us adults for miles. When we had him in one of those baby seats that attach to the back of my seat, he would get bored after about 20 minutes. If he were riding his bike solo, we would be moving at the speed of smell. With the trail gator,we can cover a lot of ground, he is able to pedal and hold the handle bars. He feels like he is riding bikes with us. It's great! No quality issues with the product after 70 miles. I'm happy.
