UPDATED REVIEW!!After repairing the faulty stitching, I went ahead and ordered two more of these in different colors. And they are awesome! I love the pocket layout, and the fit. The only REAL issue I can point out is that they are made of a fairly thick material - a.k.a. Gonna be VERY HOT wearing them in the summer. They're perfect for early and late season, just not middle is the summer. In my perfect world these would be available in a lighter material....but the stitching on the Velcro waist closure (in lieu of a snap or button) started coming apart almost immediately. As you can see in the three pictures, it doesn't appear that the machine stitcher was working properly. The 'X' stitch across the interior of the Velcro doesn't go through to the back. And the Velcro patch itself is pulling apart where the needle went through. The stitching along the short side where one would grab the closure to pull it open is missing altogether, again - see the enclosed pics. Great shorts other then that!! I see other reviewers complaining about the size of the "cell phone pocket" being 'too small'. Well, that's because it's designed to hold ammo clips - not cell phones. I personally like where the pockets are located and the sizing. They're great for people who actually work for a living - you know who you are! I am going to order another color and hope for the best with the build quality. Will update upon second pair arriving and trying. Johnny K, Brooklyn NY USA
There's not much I don't like about these shorts, but the one thing I don't like is the color I happened to pick out. I went with "adaptive green" and they're about the least flattering color in the existence of color. I took the advice of others and bought 1 size up from what I would normally and that was perfect. I normally get a 32, which gives me some room in normal instances and I ordered a 34 in these and there's no way I'd go down a size. The fabric feels very durable and I feel as though these will last me a while. I like that they have several belt loops, so that if you do like to wear a belt like I do, you don't have an issue with the fabric bunching up and being uncomfortable. The assortment of pockets are all pretty handy as well. I would agree with another commenter that the pocket that seems to be the "phone" pocket is a little narrow for most phones these days. It's difficult for me to find casual shorts I like to wear in general and these are definitely my new favorites in terms of fit and comfort - I'll be getting a few more pairs in different, more appealing colors. I also want to note that the length seems to be perfect; they end pretty much right at my knee or maybe slightly below. In closing, quality shorts, look good, feel and appear to be well-made.
Like everybody else, I had to order 2 to make sure the sizing is right. The description is not clear. From the description: To fit waist (recommended): S 31"-33", M 33"-35", L 35"-37"IRL if you order a 34 from the list, it will be an L, 32 is an M and 30 is an S and so on.For me first I ordered a 34, because the description put it as an M 33-35, but it's actually an L.So I had to order a 32, and S according to the description, and got the M that is a great for for a 32!Helikon TEX does shows S,M,L etc on their website, so just stick to that.If you need an S, order 30, 32 for M, 34 for L and so on.The fit is great, if you are a medium IRL, get the M.

I love these shorts. I was aware of the difficult buttons before I bought the shorts because they were mentioned by other reviewers, but that can be easily remedied by sewing on a couple strips of Velcro. The shorts are very comfortable. Although they're men's shorts & I'm a woman, I needed a pair of really practical & comfortable shorts to wear biking & hiking. Women's pants don't have useable pockets because they're made to show off our butts, not hold cell phone, keys, etc. I'm way past the age of hoping to look cute, so am totally pleased with my new shorts!
I have been pleased with these shorts so far. The cut of them is nice - hits slightly above my knee (29” waist shorts, 5’5” human), not overly baggy. The silhouette is trim, not bulky, which modernizes these shorts just enough. I purchased the green/brown camo, and the colors and pattern are nice. The fabric is lighter weight than most cargo shorts tend to be made of; this is great for when it’s really hot out, tho it remains to be seen how this may affect durability. They’re living an extremely hard life with me - I am a professional automotive mechanic, and these things see tons of abuse every time I wear them. Grease, oil, fluids and chemicals of all kinds, as well as abrasion. They’re washed hot once a week. I’ll definitely report back on how they hold up in the long run — this is obviously not an ideal environment for them to be in haha.My only gripes are:1) There’s no 28 waist. Why Amazon (and so many other brands tbh) chose to exclude this commonly-worn size from their run of sizes is beyond me. It ignores the market of young persons and those who are smaller-framed. The 29 waist got a little smaller after its first hot wash shrank it slightly, bringing the item from “return” to “fits well enough with a belt for wearing at work.”2) The front pockets are SO deep, that if you clip, say, a penlight, sharpie, and pen into the top corner of the cargo pocket, and have your smartphone in the front pocket of the same side, the two items will bang together annoyingly when you walk. I’m sure most folks will not run into this issue (I don’t carry the light/marker/pen when not at work), but it is something to be aware of.
I was a little bit worried since some of the reviewers claim that the buttons fall off easily, hard to open or bigger than the waist size advertised. I bought 3 cargo shorts red, blue and khaki and very happy I did. Built solid, not flap and sits a little above the knee and semi flexible not a super tight fit and im a waist 36, 6'1. I can use them without a belt and the colors are nice and not overly flash or to bright.Blue looks like a jean blue color, red is slight red, not blood red or overly bright. At a glance they look like regular cargo shorts and do not look cheap but well made. I normally buy 38 so that I can use a belt with them, but was getting annoyed of not being able to use them without a belt that I went for exact size fit and was surprised they dont hug the stomach and better fit overall. Less of a baggy effect but still loose on the sides/waist.Will buy more colors next months.

Not sure why everyone is complaining about the size. I measured my old worn out 32 Wrangler shorts and they have a circumference of 34 inches. Size 32 of these measures about 33.5 inches. They are admittedly slightly smaller but these are new and my other shorts are worn out so I think they are likely very close to the same size when both new.As for the length shown in the picture, that depends how tall you are and how high up you wear them. I got these for wearing on bike rides since I cant have bagginess in the crotch area when pedaling and regular shorts ride up to show over half of my thighs when worn up that high. These shorts stop right at my knees when worn this high.
So far, so good. I have washed these shorts several time without any loss of color, shrinking, or seam splitting. My boyfriend is 6'5", so it's difficult to find shorts that aren't TOO short for him. These fall right below his knees, which is great. I like the strong velcro-latch pockets. The pockets have not become mishapen or lumpy like they do with other cargo shorts. I also really like the metal latch above the zipper, as opposed to a button. Those buttons ALWAYS come off. This is a much more secure way to fit the waist, and for him (size 36) they fit perfectly. Great buy, we'll be getting more like it.
Perfect!!! I wear a 38 but order a 40 just for my preference. It fits perfect!!!

Worst cargo pants ever. Pockets are small and no cell phone pocket.I buy cargo short so I have a pocket for my phone and a pocket to slide a 16 oz. water bottle into. These cargo shorts have none of that. What were they thinking when they designed these?Pockets in the front are big enough to hold a deck of cards and that's all.I'll never buy these again.
They run on the large side, but I like that. The only thing I don't like are that the "cargo" pockets are essentially useless. Instead of the traditional single large pocket on either side, they split them up into several small pockets, none of which are large and/or deep enough to be useful for anything significant (which is kind of the point of cargo shorts).
I usually wear a 31" waist but since these seem to run a little large, I got a 30". Here's the crazy thing: I ordered the same size in three different colors and each fit differently!- Anthracite Twill fit like a 32", so I kept it and just use a belt.- Acorn Twill fit like a 31", which is perfect for me.- Bullfrog was a snug 30" (possibly 29.5") and too tight, so I returned it.The fabric was also erratic across the different colors, with the Acorn Twill having a lighter weight material than the Anthracite Twill.Despite those issues I really like the ones I kept. They're just the right length, ending just above the knee and they don't ride up high when seated. They're sturdy and I haven't noticed any signs of wear in the few months I've had them. The only other complaint are the pocket liners. While these shorts are supposed to be 100% cotton, the pocket liners feel more like polyester (slick and not breathable). It's not a big deal, they're just not as soft as cotton pocket liners. For the price they're worth a shot, just make sure you order from a seller with free returns due to the erratic quality control.

Here's the deal....when you buy shorts or jeans from say Old Navy, Levi's, Wrangler, etc. they are not sized true to size. They are sized to make you feel better about yourself, not the actual size of your waste. For example, I wear Old Navy "loose" jeans in a size 34"x34". I'm an averaged sized, athletic built guy. HOWEVER, my true measurements are a 38" waste and a 32" inseam. This is how Dickies, Carhartt, and most dresswear(dress pants) are sized...by your ACTUAL SIZE, not the fabricated size most popular companies use to sell everyday fashion clothes. When you buy jeans that are a 34"x34", it makes you feel thin and tall....when you buy pants true to size(like Dickies, Carhartt, etc.) that are 38"x32" in doesn't "feel" as good to say you wear a 38x32 instead of a 34x34. See what most clothing companies are doing here?....making you feel good right? It works...marketing.So, by taking my ACTUAL WASTE SIZE (38), and using that measurement to buy my Dickies and Carhartt shorts that are sized PROPERLY, they fit perfect...imagine that!Bingo...the secret fashion clothing companies don't tell you. Suprprise, you're not a 34, you're really a 38!Measure yourself....guarantee your waste is about 4 inches bigger than your "X" brand jeans say it is.Oh yeah...review of the product. Dickies shorts are great for work and play...look good and tough as nails. Highly recommend.11" shorts hit me about the knee standing, and come above the knee sitting. These 13" shorts are slightly below the knee standing, and at the knee to partially covering the knee sitting.Hope my sizing info helps others! Buy your actual waste size(measure it with a flexible tape) and I guarantee they will fit properly. This is usually going to be roughly 4 inches bigger than what you think you wear, but at least 2.
Generally appears to be well made and sturdy, but they have changed the fit. I have worn the Dickies 13" shorts to work for about a decade and normally buy one or two new pairs every summer. The old style really were "loose fit" plenty roomy everywhere, easy to move in and loose enough to be a little "breezy" on really hot days. New for 2017, the fit is smaller, particularly there is less room in the "seat" of the shorts. Also, the waist of the shorts fit higher on my waist, .....(think "mom-jeans.......) I usually buy relaxed fit or loose fit pants in order to fit my shape, however, this "loose fit feels like "loose fit for skinny people", does not fit well if you need a little more room in the seat and thigh area. All in all nicely made shorts, with a troublesome (not so loose) fit
I bought 2 pair of these shorts 3+ years ago, and I've put them through daily hard use. Both pairs still hold up and I'm working in a pair right now. I run a pressure washing company, and these things can hold up to the harshest chemicals I've thrown at them. I've burnt and cut holes in them, and the holes don't rip. The main clasp (where the button is on other shorts) got a little loose after a few years and I just squeezed it together with some pliers, and it's as strong as the day I bought them. The pockets have held nails, screws, razor blades, you name it, and there's not a hole in them. I'm a welder, and these things are pretty resistant to slag and sparks and dont burn through easily.I couldn't recommend these shorts highly enough, and the only reason I need more is because these are covered in paint and I look like a slob when I bid on jobs.
